On Friday, 18 October, some of the Trustees of So the Child May Live joined members of HExN (Health Exchange Nepal) at a dinner in Liverpool to welcome Dr Samana Sharma (on the left). Supported by the two charities, Dr Samana had come over to the UK to learn more about Child Protection work at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool. Child Protection is a much needed service in Nepal where the poverty and isolation of villages makes life very hard for many people. The dinner was held at a Nepalese restaurant called Everest Kitchen, in West Derby, and everyone really enjoyed the meal.
The Nepal Paediatric Society (NEPAS) has produced a Training Manual on Child Protection, Recognition and Response to raise awareness of child abuse and neglect and enable health workers to recognise and respond to it. According to Nepal’s new constitution, children’s rights are fundamental and it is vital that health workers know how to respond to abuse and enable children and their families live full and happy lives.
