Dave Quirk and Stephen Collinge have completed their Three Peak Challenge to raise money for So the Child May Live. They climbed the three highest peaks in Britain – Ben Nevis in Scotland, Scafell Pike in England and Snowden in Wales – and did the whole thing, including driving from one place to the other, within the 24 hours they had planned – with 10 minutes to spare!
They set out from Liverpool on Monday, 1 July and started up Ben Nevis at 4pm. They got up and down in just over 5 hours in some appalling weather. Then on to the Lake District to Scafell Pike. They started that at 2.20am, in the dark, lit only by their head torches. They got down again with the sun coming up and the heat rising. That took another 3 hours 40 minutes.
Then it was on to Snowden. Susan Wykes and Bernard Collinge drove them between climbs.
That was a wonderful feat. Congratulations to Dave, Stephen and their drivers, and many, many thanks for your support.
