Carol Bennett, a long-time supporter of So the Child May Live, won the auction at our Quiz Night last year for the one-week holiday in a campervan in the Lake District. She and her husband have recently returned home and they were thrilled with what they found. She said, “The caravan was lovely – it had 3 bedrooms, a separate toilet with washbasin from the main one which has a large shelving unit as well as a shower and sink. It was really easy to find and the staff were very helpful. We were given the owner’s discount card for 15% off in the restaurant or onsite chip shop, 50% off in the onsite Co-op shop and free access to the owners’ bar & lounge, gym, pool and sauna/jaccuzi as often as we wanted. It was a fantastic base for walking in the Lakes and going out to the Cumbria coast. There were amazing nature reserves in the dunes around Walney Island, Haverigg and Sandscale and we saw some fantastic birds that we had never seen before.”
As the week there was a treat for Carol’s birthday, she was amazed to find that, together with Rachel O’Neil, the donor of the prize, we had arranged a special welcome for her. When they arrived they found the caravan decorated with banners and balloons and, she said, “I had a beautiful box with a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates.”
We’re glad you enjoyed it, Carol, and that you had a very happy birthday. We hope it will be possible to auction another week at the caravan next year.
